Steamboat athletes

invited to barbecue

All Steamboat Springs High School and middle school athletes and parents are invited to the Steamboat Springs Booster Club's free barbecue at 5 p.m. today at the Steamboat Springs High School.

Historical society hosting two events this weekend

The Historical Society of Oak Creek and Phippsburg is sponsoring a couple of Labor Day weekend events.

First is a fabric sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Storm Mountain Coffee Roasters in downtown Oak Creek. Mill ends upholstery, drapery and decorator fabric will be sold for $4 or less a yard. There are dozens of designs and colors to choose from. The fabric was donated to the historical society for the sale.

A barbecue featuring Old Time Music is scheduled for 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Sunday in Decker Park.

All funds raised will support the work of the historical society, which is raising funds to renovate Old Town Hall and turn it into a museum.

Youth hockey association offering recreation league

The Steamboat Springs Youth Hockey Association is offering a recreational league for new players ages 7 to 12.

The program emphasizes game play and fun. There are two sessions a week, from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. Mondays and from 5:15 to 6:45 p.m. Fridays, from Sept. 10 through Oct. 29. Equipment will be provided, as needed, by SSYHA.

The cost is $65 plus $25 for a one-year USA Hockey membership. Registration is available at the SSYHA office at Howelsen Ice Arena. Call 871-0063.

Second synchronized skating team to begin

The Steamboat Springs Figure Skating Club is introducing a second synchronized skating team.

Taking the ice along with the award-winning Team Volant synchronized skating team will be Mini Team Volant. Courtney Gil will be coaching this team of young skaters, training them to skate together as a group and preparing them for competition. This team is for the young basic- to preliminary-level skater.

Join the skating club for a kickoff party from 2:45 to 5:30 p.m. Sept. 12 at Howelsen Ice Arena.

Rattlebrain Theater

will perform Sept. 14

Rattlebrain Theater, an award-winning comedy troupe, will present its improvisational comedy at 8 p.m. Sept. 14 in the Priest Creek Ballroom at the Steamboat Grand Resort Hotel and Conference Center, 2300 Mount Warner Circle.

Tickets are $25 for adults; $15 for teens and may be purchased at the door.

Proceeds from the evening benefit the programs of the Colorado Veterinary Medical Foundation, including the Colorado State Animal Response Team.

Last week to register for ESL classes at CMC

This is the final week to register for English as a Second Language/Ingles como Segundo Idioma at Colorado Mountain College.

Classes are from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and 9 a.m. to noon Wednesdays in Willett Hall, rooms 302 and 314. Students of all languages and levels are welcome. Call 870 4543.

Kistler's oil paintings at Sleeping Giant Gallery

Sleeping Giant Gallery at 624 Lincoln Ave. is hosting a one-man show featuring oil paintings by Cully Kistler. The show will be up for the month of September. Call Don Tudor at 879-7143.
