Man arrested on charges of meth possession

A traffic stop Friday resulted in the arrest of 44-year-old Craig man on charges of the possession and distribution of methamphetamine.

Steamboat Springs Police stopped Edwin Richard Gereaux at about 5:50 p.m. Friday near Lincoln Avenue and 13th Street. Police saw Gereaux driving and pulled him over because he was driving on a restricted license, Captain Joel Rae said.

The police were handcuffing Gereaux to take him to jail when the man asked for police to retrieve his cell phone to make a call. When a police officer went into the vehicle to get the cell phone, he noticed a black bag, Rae said.

After searching the bag, the officers found a stash box with less than 1 gram of methamphetamine, 17 clear plastic baggies that had methamphetamine residue, electronic scales and a glass smoke pipe.

Gereaux was charged with driving without a valid license, no proof of insurance, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a Schedule 2 substance and distribution of a Schedule 2 substance.
