I find it hard to understand how the Routt County Planning Department and Board of County Commissioners can condemn Mountain West Landscaping for materials stored on its property that have not contaminated the Yampa River in any way when just last month both governing bodies allowed the Willow Creek subdivision to dump its sewage into the Elk River.
There was no discussion as to the effects of so called "treated effluent" on the aquatic plants and fish or introduction of ecoli bacteria in the Elk River drainage when the Willow Creek decision was made. Now, the Planning Department and BOCC have condemned a local business for violations that have not occurred but simply might occur in the Yampa River.
The people of Routt County deserve better governmental decisions than to allow a subdivision to contaminate the Elk River while condemning Mountain West for something that has not happened to the Yampa River. Instead, residents are forced to endure more "treated effluent" in the form of bad decisions from the Planning Department and Board of County Commissioners.
