Snowboard art competition

A prospectus will be available Sept. 1 for participants in the third annual Ride Snowboard's Graphic Arts Competition. Entries are scheduled for exhibition in February 2005. The deadline for entries is Jan. 15, 2005. For more information, visit www.artlinksteamboat.org.

Journal classes for six weeks

Registration is now open for "Writing the Reflective Life: Journaling for the Mind, Body and Soul" taught by Barbara Sparks, a member of the Steamboat Springs Arts Council Writing Group. The six-week course is for anyone interested in using writing as a way to reflect on life, Sparks said, and use that experience to make decisions and take action.

Sparks' workshop began at 6 p.m. Thursday. The cost is $15 per session. Call 291-9115 to register.

Museum hosts 'Levis and Lace'

The Tread of Pioneers Museum hosts "Levis and Lace" at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at Storm Mountain Ranch. Attendees are asked to wear their finest Western wear for an evening that includes a roping exhibition, carriage rides, ranch dinner, entertainment by 3-Wire, old-time photographs, silent auction and more. Tickets cost $75 and are available at the Tread of Pioneers Museum or by calling 879-2214.

Sculpture

is on display

Mexican sculptor Yvonne Domenge's large-scale, contemporary steel and wood sculpture collection called "Forgotten Cosmos" is on exhibit in the courtyard and foyer of Centennial Hall as part of the Northwest Colorado Mexican Cultural Festival. The public art exhibit is a collaborative effort between the Steamboat Springs Arts Council, the city of Steamboat Springs and the Mexican consulate in Denver. It is the centerpiece of an ongoing Mexican heritage celebration on the Western Slope.

Kitchen Tour

is Sept. 25

The Steamboat Springs Kitchen Tour, including tours of six private home kitchens and cooking demonstrations by local chefs, will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 25. Advance tickets cost $20 and are available at All That Jazz, Off the Beaten Path Bookstore, The Homesteader and Strings in the Mountains, or by calling 879-5056, ext.105.

Arts tours on Thursdays

ArtThursday is a free 45-minute guided arts and cultural orientation tour that highlights studios, galleries, historic points of interest, hard-to-find mineral springs and fine-craft sites. The tour ends at Mahogany Ridge Brewery and Grill with a tasting/tour. The tour departs at 4 p.m. every Thursday from the upper parking lot at Wells Fargo Bank at Fourth and Oak streets. Hanson's work on display

"Summer Art 2004" a juried, multi-media fine art exhibit and sale of work by local, regional and national artists is on display at the Depot Art Center, 1001 13th St. New work by Janice Hanson, the best of show winner from Summer Art 2003, is on display in the Small Works Gallery at the Depot. Historic tour at 9 Wednesdays

Join historian Dee Bolton for a walking tour of downtown Steamboat Springs' historic buildings and sites at 9 a.m. Wednesdays. Meet in front of the Tread of Pioneers Museum, Eighth and Oak streets. Free. Call 871-9151.

Sojourn tickets are available

Tickets are available for Literary Sojourn, an annual gathering of authors and book-lovers, scheduled for Oct. 2 at the Sheraton Steamboat Resort. This year's featured authors are Christina Garc-a, Ann-Marie MacDonald, Audrey Niffenegger, David Quammen and Brady Udall, with Dr. Regina Barreca returning as master of ceremonies. The day includes presentations by each writer, brunch and a book-signing reception. Tickets cost $75 until Sept. 17.
