Applications for Routt County Historic Designation are due at 5 p.m. Tuesday in the Routt County Commissioners' Office. Blank applications can be obtained at the commissioners' office or call Dee Bolton at 879-0108, ext. 314 for an e-mail application.
English as a second
language classes offered
CMC is offering two free courses in English as a second language.
Classes are from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and/or 9 a.m. to noon Wednesdays in Willett Hall Room 301 and Willett Hall Room 314. Students of all languages and levels are welcome. Call 870-4543.
Steamboat Springs goes back to school on Monday
The first day of class for all schools in the Steamboat Springs School District is Monday. Any students new to the district should call their respective school or the district office at 879-1530 to enroll.

Volunteers needed for Hahn's Peak Jail effort
Volunteers are needed to help restore the historic Hahn's Peak Jail and repair fence at the schoolhouse from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Call 879-7688 or 879-7291.
Funds available for mammograms, treatment
The Yampa Valley Breast Cancer Awareness Project has funds available through the end of the year to help pay for mammograms or breast cancer treatment for women who cannot afford such services. Call 879-1632.
Volunteer day scheduled Sept. 14 for plant posse
A volunteer day for the Routt Invasive Plant Posse is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 14. The collaborative effort among Routt County, the city of Steamboat Springs, the Colorado Division of Wildlife, Colorado State Parks, The Nature Conservancy and the U.S. Forest Service will survey early invasions of noxious weeds along the Yampa River and its tributaries. Plants being surveyed include tamarisk, Russian olive, meadow knapweed and purple loosestrife. Assistance is needed to help stop these species from taking root along the river.

Humble Ranch Benefit
will be held Sept. 10
The fourth annual Humble Ranch Benefit will begin with a barbecue, square dance and silent auction with sculptor Jeff Wolf from 6 to 9 p.m. Sept. 10. A benefit Trail-a-Thon will be from 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 11 with a horseback ride, run and hike over Emerald Mountain. Tread of Pioneers to host Levis and Lace Saturday
Tread of Pioneers Museum hosts Levis and Lace at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at Storm Mountain Ranch. Attendees are asked to wear their finest Western wear for an evening that includes a roping exhibition, carriage rides, ranch dinner, entertainment by 3-Wire, old-time photographs, silent auction and more. Tickets cost $75 and are available at the Tread of Pioneers Museum.
