United 737 takes off earlier this year

Steamboat officials want air service to match the early season powder the ski area has enjoyed the past few ski seasons.

Andy Wirth, marketing vice president for American Skiing Co.'s Western resorts, said the daily 737 flown by United airlines between Denver and Yampa Valley Regional Airport during ski season will begin service Dec. 4 -- 11 days earlier than last year.

"During the second and third week in December, Steamboat has had a competitive advantage (over other resorts) in snow, but our accessibility is not there," Wirth said.

Sandvik recognized

for long-term care

Prudential Financial, Inc. announced Thursday that Mark Sandvik, a financial planner with Prudential's Steamboat Springs office, 1041 Lincoln Ave., has earned the Certified in Long Term Care designation from the Corporation for Long Term Care Certification.

Candidates for the CLTC designation must complete a prescribed curriculum and pass examinations on subjects relating to long-term care and long-term care insurance, including aging in America, Medicaid, Medicare, estate and financial planning, long-term-care tax-law, and long term care services.

"Prudential is very sensitive to the needs of our community. ... Earning the CLTC designation means that I have the additional knowledge I need to better explain the complexities of long-term care insurance to my clients," Sandvik said.
