Check-in for high school students is Wednesday

Check-in for all students attending Steamboat Springs High School will be Wednesday. Students should report at the following times: Seniors -- 7:30 to 9:30 a.m., juniors -- 9:30 to 11 a.m. and sophomores -- 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Freshman orientation and check-in is from 1 to 6:30 p.m. A meeting for parents of freshmen is at 5:30 p.m.

All students must bring their completed blue enrollment forms with parental signatures. Students should be prepared to pay class fees, have school pictures taken and bring their library cards to receive textbooks. All juniors and seniors must sign up for a driving safety class to be eligible for an open campus permit. Call the school at 879-1562.

'Dog Days of Summer' contest for children

The Routt County Humane Society is sponsoring a "Dog Days of Summer" picture and writing contest for children ages 5 to 12. In the picture contest, children can either draw their favorite "Lab D'Arte" painted dog or take a photograph of the dog in town. Photographers can use other objects or props in their pictures, but are asked to make sure nothing touches the dog sculpture. In the writing contest, children can write a story -- no longer than two pages -- about a day in the life of one of the dogs.

Self-defense seminar for women offered Aug. 28

A women's self-defense seminar will be offered from 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 28 at Hayden High School. The cost is $32. Class size is limited to 20. To register or for more information, call instructor J.D. Paul at 276-7242.

Clinical pastoral education seminar held in Craig

A Clinical Pastoral Education Information Sharing Seminar will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Craig. The Rev. Foy Richey, president of Rocky Mountain Pastoral Care and Training Associates, will host the seminar, which is designed to gather a professional theological education training group for clergy and laity.
