The two big dogs were happy and wanted to play. My 90-year-old Mom was walking her little dog, Sweetie, to the cluster mail box to get her mail. It was a beautiful Steamboat summer day that was shattered, along with my Mom's right hip and arm, when she fell.
Gone are the peaceful, pleasant days sitting on her patio with her flowers and little dog, watching the birds at the feeder and enjoying the warm summer days.
We all love our dogs in Steamboat and we want them to be able to run free. The reality is that everyone, whether a small child or older person, must be safe in their surroundings. Leashing our dogs is a small consideration to ask in accomplishing this goal, whether it is on the bike path, a trail, or in the neighborhood where we live.
