Curtis disappointing
Mr. Anthony Curtis: Regarding your preliminary decision to deny Routt County's request to fill a small wetland, I am disappointed that you apparently are influenced by the City Council and businessman cabal to show preference for the Sixth Street location.
This "partnership" seems to worship only at the altar of commercialism, ignoring the fact that traffic from a glut of tourism, special events and the through-traffic on U.S. Highway 40 already has created a real congestion problem in the downtown area. Parking anywhere near the old courthouse site on Sixth Street already is hard to find, yet the city has offered to waive an elevated parking structure if only the center is built there.
The city was quick to ignore its own parking regulations and standards to cram the center onto the small site.
Judging from letters to the editor and Sound Off, a majority of Routt County residents favor the west site.
The delay is costing us hapless taxpayers dearly. Please reconsider your decision, ignoring the venal motivation of the above-referenced cabal.
