A 15-year-old girl critically injured in a rollover accident Wednesday near Walden has died.

Dannelle Oldfield of La Salle was pronounced dead at Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins early Friday morning, the Colorado State Patrol reported.

Oldfield was airlifted to the hospital with massive head injuries after the minivan she was riding in rolled several times off Colorado Highway 14, about six miles west of Walden.

The accident reportedly happened when the van's driver, 15-year-old Angela Geis of Hayden, swerved off the road while adjusting the rear-view mirror. She managed to steer the car back onto the road but swerved off again when she was headed into oncoming traffic, State Patrol Trooper Rick Kaspar said.

The van rolled twice before coming to a rest on its wheels.

Oldfield, a cousin of the driver, was not wearing a seat belt and may have been laying down in the third-row seat of the van. She was ejected from the driver's side rear window and was found about 85 feet from the van, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

Angela Geis and her brother Samuel Geis, 4, who was sitting in the second-row passenger seat, suffered minor cuts and bruises. Their mother, Toni Geis, 40, was in the front seat of the van and suffered a broken collarbone and rib.

The three were wearing seat belts and were taken to Yampa Valley Medical Center and released Wednesday night.

Angela Geis had a Colorado instructional permit and was being coached by her mother at the time of the accident. The family was taking Oldfield back to La Salle after a short stay in Hayden.

The van was traveling at the posted speed limit of 65 mph, based on initial investigations, the state patrol reported. Troopers do not suspect drugs or alcohol were involved.
