Steamboat Springs The final week of Triple Crown youth baseball tournaments is here, and event organizers are planning to end in grand style.
The championship games in the 10-year-old and 13-year-old age divisions will be broadcast on a tape-delayed basis on TV stations throughout the country. Triple Crown's Thad Anderson said footage was shot at two earlier sessions of Division 1 to add into this weekend's broadcast.
The TV cameras and crew will be stationed at Vanatta Field at Howelsen Hill for the Sunday championships, but the preparation to bring in television crews has been ongoing for several weeks.
"It is going to be good," Anderson said of the finals. "The quality of teams in both brackets is pretty stocked up. We shot highlights in each age division to give a little bit of representation to everyone. Last count, about 20 million households will be receiving the broadcast."
Triple Crown plans to incorporate images of Steamboat Springs into the broadcast as well.
According to a release from Triple Crown, stations in states such as Alabama, California, Missouri, Louisiana, Hawaii and Tennessee are scheduled to receive the footage package from Triple Crown.
Admission is free to attend all Triple Crown games, and organizers are offering prize giveaways to encourage spectators to come out and watch the season's baseball finales in Steamboat. The 10s will play at 11 a.m. Sunday at Vanatta. The 13s will play at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Vanatta.
Prizes to be given away include cash, concession items, Louisville Slugger and Triple Crown merchandise.
More than 70 teams are taking part in this week's play, wrapping up a summer that saw more than 300 teams from throughout the country travel to Northwest Colorado to play Triple Crown qualifiers or World Series youth tournaments.
In addition to the games, the tournaments have included skills challenges and pin exchanges. Steamboat, Hayden, Oak Creek and Craig hosted Triple Crown games this summer, and several local teams took advantage of the proximity of the tournament, as well.
The Triple Crown events wrap up in Steamboat with the adult slow pitch softball summer nationals from Aug. 20 to 22.
