National Weather Service offers weather training

The National Weather Service will offer basic weather-spotter training from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in the Yampa Valley Electric Association meeting room. The training will help people identify, anticipate and report significant and potentially life-threatening weather. Participants also will receive training on protecting themselves and others during severe weather.

LIFT-UP holding a Domestic Items Drive

LIFT-UP of Routt County is hosting a Domestic Items Drive at the Steamboat Springs High School, 45 Maple St. Domestic items include toilet paper, paper towels, laundry detergent, fabric softener, dish detergent, deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste and toothbrushes. The drive ends May 7.

Partners holding several events in upcoming weeks

Partners in Routt County is holding several events in the next few weeks. An appreciation luncheon for senior partners involved in the Partners in Routt County program will be at noon May 10. RSVP by May 5 by calling 879-6141. A barbecue for junior and senior partners, featuring a chance to watch stock dogs in action, will be at 6 p.m. May 29 at the Routt County Fairgrounds.

Free dental care available for uninsured children

Delta Dental's Smile-a-bration, a day of free dental care for uninsured children, is from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 to 3 p.m. May 24 at Avant Garde Dental, 1915 Alpine Plaza, No. 5. Call 871-0033.

Fresh Air Fitness offers

a 3-week class in May

Robin Wilson's Fresh Air Fitness offers a three-week class from May 3 through 21. The cost of the class is $25. Register by May 3 by calling 870-7942 or 846-3356. Other weekly classes available include weight training, step aerobics, core conditioning, circuit weight aerobics and low-impact aerobics.

Hayden Cog Run is

May 15, includes 3 races

The 26th Hayden Cog Run will be held May 15 and will involve three races: an 8.4-mile, out-and-back challenging Cog Run, a 10K and 5K Fun Walk/Run over rolling hills. The top two male and female runners in each race will receive awards. Youth prizes also will be awarded. Register at Hayden Town Hall, Central Park Christy Sports in Steamboat Springs or online at www.active.com. Race-day registration will begin at 9 a.m. at the Hayden Town Park. All races will begin promptly at 10 a.m. Call 276-3741. This event is sponsored by Town of Hayden Recreation.

American Legion Post 44 looking for veterans

The American Legion Leo Hill Post 44 of Steamboat Springs is trying to locate area World War II veterans. The Steamboat post will present certificates of appreciation from the National American Legion and to the veterans during a Memorial Day dinner planned for 1 p.m. May 31 at the Steamboat Springs Veterans of Foreign Wars post, after an 11 a.m. memorial service at the Steamboat Springs Cemetery. Steamboat veterans are asked to contact Post 44 Commander Gar Williams at 879-3732. Veterans in other communities can call their local posts or Routt County Veterans Affairs Officer Michael Condie at 879-3075.

Agriculture curriculum available for teachers

Routt County CattleWomen has agriculture curriculum available for teachers that is appropriate for all grade levels from preschool to secondary. Topics include Colorado history, beef by-products, wheat, eggs, dairy, nutrition, safe food handling, body image and food and recipes.
