— Kelly Labor's four goals helped keep the hottest Sailors team cooking Saturday with a 5-1 win over the Rifle Bears in Rifle.

The Steamboat Springs High School girls team is now 9-0 in the Western Slope League and 9-1-1 overall. The team is off until April 29, when it will host Glenwood Springs in a 4 p.m. game at Dudley Field.

"It wasn't one of our best games as a team," assistant coach Danny Tebbenkamp said. "So, maybe a little break will be beneficial for the team."

In the last pre-break game, Labor scored two goal in the first half and two more in the second. The final goal of the game came from teammate Haley Gallagher.

After the game, most of the team headed for vacation. The high school is closed for spring break this week. Tebbenkamp the players promised to take steps to stay in shape during the break.

"If they don't keep their word, they will be paying the price when they get back," Tebbenkamp said.

The good news is that the Sailors have a firm grasp on first place in the league and will have four games after the break to work out any post vacation rust.

In addition to the game against Glenwood on April 29, Steamboat will face Evergreen on April 30, Delta on May 3 and Battle Mountain on May 4.
