Several community garden plots are available
Several garden plots at the Community Garden on the corner of Fourth and Oak streets are available through LIFT-UP of Routt County. The plots will be rented on a first come, first served basis. Potential renters should bring $30 to the LIFT-UP Thrift Store, 718 Oak St., and fill out an agreement form. No plots will be reserved over the phone. Call 870-0727.
Learn to assess riparian, wetland conditions
The Colorado Riparian Training Cadre, an interagency, interdisciplinary team, is inviting private landowners, government employees and other interested residents to attend a two-day training session, July 27 and 28 in Steamboat Springs, on how to assess riparian/wetland condition. A primary objective of this training is to develop a common vocabulary and understanding of riparian areas among people who work on the land. The session includes one day in a classroom setting and one day visiting streams in the field. There is no tuition, but space is limited. The class size will be kept to a maximum of 30 students to facilitate meaningful interaction. CMC presents opera appreciation course
Registration is under way for the Colorado Mountain College opera appreciation course, "What's Opera Doc?" Classes run from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursdays, May 6 to June 10, at CMC. CattleWomen providing information for teachers
Routt County CattleWomen has agriculture curriculum available for teachers appropriate for all grade levels from preschool to secondary. Topics include Colorado history, beef by-products, wheat, eggs, dairy, nutrition, safe food handling, body image and food and recipes.

SummerArt 2004 exhibit entries being accepted
The Steamboat Springs Arts Council is seeking entries for SummerArt 2004, a multimedia juried fine-art exhibit and sale to be held July 8 through Sept. 5 at the Eleanor Bliss Center for the Arts at the Depot Art Center. Entries should be submitted as 35 mm slides by Friday. Information on veterans' benefits available
Veterans can receive information on veterans' benefits by calling 879-3547 or stopping by the Routt County Veterans Affairs Office in Sundance at Fish Creek, next to the driver's license office. The office is open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday. Bring Discharge Form 214 for registration with the county and application for VA programs.
