Community Foundation awarding nonprofits

In celebration of its 25th anniversary, the Yampa Valley Community Foundation is making a gift of $25,000 to the community by recognizing one nonprofit organization in each of five fields of interest with a $5,000 grant. A Sterling Anniversary Award will be given to one organization that has made a significant impact to improve the community in recreation; education; health and human services; arts and culture; and environment. The Steamboat Ski and Resort Corporation was the co-sponsor for the recreation field of interest, which was presented to the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club on March 3.

The public is invited to participate by nominating nonprofit or charitable organizations and groups that exemplify the principles that guide the mission of the Community Foundation to honor tradition and maintain the character of the Yampa Valley. Nominees will be selected by the grant committee of the Foundation based on the organization's exemplary work in its particular field. Nominations should include the name of the organization or group, its mission statement and a brief description of why the organization is deserving of the award.

Nominations will be accepted through the Steamboat Pilot & Today and may be e-mailed to publisher@steamboatpilot.com or dropped off at the newspaper office, 1901 Curve Plaza. The deadline for nominations for the four remaining awards follow.
