Man arrested on suspicion of possessing mushrooms
A 22-year-old Steamboat Springs man was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of possessing psilocybin mushrooms after police spotted the drugs through the window of his residence.
On Monday, Jeremy Gene Wood's car rolled down a hill unattended and into an embankment on Fairview Drive, Steamboat Springs Assistant Police Chief Art Fiebing said.
When police went to Wood's residence at 424 Fairview Drive to inform him of the accident, they saw what they suspected were drugs through the window.
The police obtained a search warrant and contacted GRAMNET, the Grand, Routt and Moffat Narcotics Enforcement Team. The law enforcement officers searched the residence and found a small bag of mushrooms in the house, Fiebing said.
Wood was arrested on suspicion of possession of a Schedule I drug. His bond is set at $20,000.
Man arrested on suspicion of meth possession
A 21-year-old Colorado Springs man was arrested Tuesday night on suspicion of methamphetamine possession.
Richard Anthony Mercado was arrested after Routt County Sheriff's Deputy Kurtis Luster spotted what he thought to be an abandoned vehicle along U.S. Highway 40 on Rabbit Ears Pass.
When Luster approached the vehicle at about 7 p.m., he saw people inside and noticed smoke coming out the windows, Lt. Richard Wood said.
Mercado, who was the driver of the car, admitted to not having a valid driver's license. During questioning, Luster noticed drug paraphernalia in the vehicle and asked to search it.
Luster found several small plastic bags containing a substance that preliminary tests indicated was crystal methamphetamine.
Mercado was arrested on charges of possession of a Schedule II substance. He remains in the Routt County Jail on $20,000 bond.
