CMC to present series on Westlake's bicycle trip

Colorado Mountain College and Alpine Enrichment Program Seminar Series presents "Back to Alaska: A Multimedia Journey" about professor Jimmy Westlake's stories and challenges on his bicycle trip from Colorado to Alaska this past summer.

The seminar, in room 300 of Bogue Hall, is at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Admission is free to all ages.

Parks and Recreation sponsoring Denver trip

The Steamboat Springs Parks and Recreation Department's School Days Off Program is sponsoring a trip to the Denver Museum of Nature and Science on April 22.

The trip is for students in third through fifth grades. Participants will tour the museum, see the IMAX movie, "Coral Reef Adventure," and experience the Inca retreat of Machu Picchu, one of the museum's newest exhibits.

Cost of the trip is $40 and includes the 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. trip, admission to the museum and two snacks. Students must bring lunches.

Space is limited. Register by April 14 at the Parks and Recreation Office. Call Jennifer at 879-4300.

Middle school students seek car for 'art car'

Steamboat Springs Middle School students are looking for a car in running condition to use for their "art car" project, to be featured in this summer's Art Car Stampede. Anyone interested in donating a vehicle can receive a tax deduction. Call teacher Johnny Walker at 879-4947.

Yampatika to spread

Earth Day messages

Yampatika will stencil messages on storm drains for Earth Day from 9 a.m. to noon April 22.

The goal is to help reduce pollution reaching the Yampa River. Participants should meet at Yampatika, 925 Weiss Drive. Bring gloves and wear grubby clothes.

Land stewardship class

to be offered at CMC

A land stewardship course will be held at Colorado Mountain College on Thursdays from 6:30 to 9 p.m. April 8 through May 20. Participants will examine weed and pasture management in agricultural and natural areas in Routt County. The cost is $40. Call 870-4444 to register.

Free workshop to focus

on nonprofit boards

The Nonprofit Excellence Project is hosting a "Board of Directors 101" Capacity Building Workshop focused on the basic legal and financial responsibilities of all nonprofit boards of directors Thursday.

The workshop is from 10 a.m. to noon in Centennial Hall.

The workshop will lead participants through a basic understanding of the legal basis for nonprofit organizations and what this means in terms of the legal and financial responsibilities for each nonprofit board.

Battle of the Bands

scheduled for May 21

The City of Steamboat Springs Teen Program and the Steamboat Pilot's Teen Style will be hosting a Battle of the Bands for musicians in middle school and high school. CMC, DeWardt present 'Writing and Being'

Colorado Mountain College and Susan DeWardt are presenting "Writing and Being" a facilitated workshop on life/travel writing in a personal journal. Meetings will at 9 a.m. Mondays June 7 through Aug. 16. The cost is $75. Call 870-4444 to register.
