Send-off party for Chris Stillwell on Saturday
Steamboat Springs resident Chris Stillwell, who suffered a serious injury in an accident Dec. 15, will return to Steamboat for a brief visit before departing to Bakersfield, Calif., for additional rehabilitative treatment.
Friends are invited to attend a send-off party for Stillwell from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Freshies Restaurant. (Times listed in Friday's Steamboat Today were incorrect.) Those who attend should bring an appetizer to share. Beverages will be provided.
Stillwell has successfully completed a three-month rehabilitation at the Craig Rehabilitation Hospital in Denver.

Yampa Valley Community Foundation to give gift
In celebration of its 25th anniversary, the Yampa Valley Community Foundation is making a gift of $25,000 to the community by recognizing one nonprofit organization in each of five fields of interest with a $5,000 grant. A Sterling Anniversary Award will be given to one organization that has made a significant impact to improve the community in recreation; education; health and human services; arts and culture; and environment. The Steamboat Ski and Resort Corporation was the co-sponsor in the recreation field of interest, which was presented to the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club on March 3.
The public is invited to participate by nominating nonprofit or charitable organizations and groups that exemplify the principles that guide the mission of the Community Foundation to honor tradition and maintain the character of the Yampa Valley. Nominees will be selected by the grant committee of the Foundation based on the organization's exemplary work in its particular field. Nominations should include the name of the organization/group, its mission statement and a brief description of why the organization is deserving of the award.
Nominations will be accepted through the Steamboat Pilot & Today and may be e-mailed to email@example.com or dropped off at the newspaper office, 1901 Curve Plaza. The deadline for nominations for the four remaining awards follow.

n Health and human services, sponsored by First National Bank, deadline is June 1 with the award to be presented June 22 at the Hospice Golf Tournament Dinner at the Chart House
n Arts and culture deadline is Oct. 15, with the award to be presented the week of Nov. 15 during National Philanthropy/Community Foundation week.
n Environment deadline is Nov. 20, with the award to be presented Dec. 15 at the YVCF annual holiday lunch.
Registration under way for CMC's 'What's Opera Doc?'
Registration is under way for the Colorado Mountain College opera-appreciation course, "What's Opera Doc?" Classes run from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursdays, May 6 to June 10, at CMC. Summer Arts program
registration begins Tuesday
Registration for the Summer Arts Immersion Program, Demede Fare, begins at 9 a.m. Tuesday at The Depot Art Center and is on a first come, first served basis. The program runs from 9 a.m. to noon weekdays, from June 21 to July 13. Students will create a production of music, song and dance based on the arts and culture from Guinea, West Africa, with guest artist Fara Tolno. Thirty spots available. Call 879-9008.
