Public welcome to attend election forums Oct. 15

The Steamboat Pilot & Today and KRMR radio will host a pair of election forums Oct. 15. A midday forum will be from noon to 2 p.m. at Centennial Hall and an evening forum will be from 7 to 9 p.m. at Olympian Hall.

Because of the number of Steamboat Springs City Council and School Board candidates attending and several ballot issues that will be discussed, questions will not be accepted from the audience during the forums. Instead, residents are encouraged to submit questions in advance to sstanford@steamboatpilot.com or krmrtalk@yahoo.com by Oct. 8.

The questions posed to candidates during the forums will be chosen from those received by the newspaper and KRMR radio.

LIFT-UP Food Bank has moved to Moffat Avenue

Teens to develop voters' guide for first-timers

The Steamboat Pilot & Today Teen Style staff is putting together a guide for first-time (18-year-old) voters. We are looking for high school-age writers, photographers and artists who want to participate in the project.

Pet visitation program

to hold recruitment drive

Heeling Friends, Yampa Valley Medical Center's pet visitation program, will hold a fall recruitment drive for new dog-handler teams from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 6 and 8 at the Steamboat Springs Community Center. Pre-registration is required. Call 871-0021.

Columbine chorale seeks talented young singers

Columbine Youth Chorale is seeking talented young singers. The children's choir is open to all interested youths ages 8-14; no experience is necessary. The group meets from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays at the Methodist Church. The choir will present a Christmas program Dec. 13 in collaboration with the Steamboat Springs Youth Orchestra. Call 879-1996.

Arts Council looking

for artists for art show

The Steamboat Springs Arts Council is accepting applications from Colorado artists for a one-person or small group show at the Eleanor Bliss Center for the Arts at the Depot Art Center. Exhibit dates are Feb. 13-March 21. Dates for private exhibits in our Small Works Gallery will be determined in August. E-mail arts@steamboatspringsarts.com or call 879-9008 for entry guidelines. Advocates to hold first new volunteer sessions

The first new volunteer training session for Advocates Against Battering and Abuse will be held at 6 p.m. Oct. 14. If you are interested in becoming an advocate and participating in the 25-hour training course, call Sandy at 879-2034.

Library continues series 'It's a Girl Thing'

Bud Werner Memorial Library will continue its book discussion series for girls and women called "It's a Girl Thing" this fall. The free program is open to girls ages 10 to 13 and a woman of significance in their lives, such as their mother, grandmother, friend or teacher. Each pair will be given a copy of the discussion book to keep. Pairs may sign up for one or two discussions. The program will take place from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Oct. 10, Nov. 7 and Dec. 5 at the library. Advanced registration is required. Call the library at 879-0240 or stop by the children's desk.
