Steamboat Springs Twenty minutes into last year's hunting season, Steamboat Springs resident Rusty McIntosh and his buddies had killed six elk near Quaker Mountain, about 15 miles north of Hayden.
"The hunting is awesome up there," McIntosh said. "All the hunters in California Park spook them right to us. They did it the past two years in a row."
McIntosh owns a small hunting cabin in a 2,700-acre rural subdivision called Quaker Mountain Ranch off Routt County Road 80. Another cabin in the same area is now for sale for $199,900 with all its furnishings, or it can be rented during the hunting season.
Set on 35 acres with hundreds of large aspens, a meadow and a one-acre pond, the 1,292-square-foot cabin is far from any neighbors. It is bordered by the Routt National Forest to the north.
The cabin is a one-story, one-bedroom, one-bath, D-log home, meaning the logs are flat on the inside. There is no insulation in the thick log walls, but there is insulation between the tongue and groove ceiling and metal roof, and a wood stove puts out enough heat to keep the inside warm. A deck stretches across the front of the structure, where the Flat Tops can be seen more than 50 miles in the distance.
The cabin also has wooden floors and a loft with four single beds, making it possible for eight people to sleep comfortably. A separate one-vehicle garage is in the back, which is currently used as a workshop and houses the generator that provides electricity for the cabin.
Cabin users can cook using a propane range in the kitchen, which also has a propane-powered refrigerator/freezer.
"This is the type of property people are always looking for, but can't ever find," said Realtor Bill Dulan, of Mason and Morse Real Estate.
"This is a year-round recreation site," said Bill's wife Patricia, also a Realtor with Mason and Morse.
Furnishings being sold with the cabin include two sofa beds, a dining room table and chairs, the four beds in the loft, a full-size bed and dresser in the bedroom, a television and a hanging light fixture in the living room.
The cabin does not have cable hookups, but a satellite could easily be installed.
