Art shuttle will end its regular service Sept. 18

— As ArtLink, a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting art and artists in Steamboat Springs, winds down its first summer, organizers Pat Walsh and Susan Scheisser are looking forward to next year.

"It's all about wrapping up the first summer but continuing to make it better," Walsh said.

The organization's Steamboat Springs Transit Art-Line, a weekly art shuttle, ends regular service Sept. 18, though monthly service continues through the winter.

ArtLine took its first run from Stock Bridge Center to the mountain May 29. Attendance was minimal, and there were kinks to work out, such as the immediate addition of a volunteer tour guide to ride the bus every Thursday.

Each Thursday throughout the summer, participating businesses -- listed as stops on the ArtLine -- had the responsibility of hosting art events.

"We haven't done anything new," Walsh said, "except show a few artists like George Krawzoff who haven't shown their work in Steamboat before."

She said ArtLink tried to shine a spotlight on what was already present.

Walsh and Scheisser are the owners of an art studio/gallery called Yampa River Studio. The studio became the office for ArtLink and focal point of many ArtLine Thursdays as they hosted art exhibits of work by Jessica Maynard, Joel Hausman, JoAnn Baker Paul, Rob Williams and Krawzoff.

As Walsh and Scheisser make plans for next year, they hope to add a larger educational element to ArtLink.

"We want to bring in shows that will help us learn about art," Walsh said.

The goal of ArtLink and the impetus for starting the organization is to open a museum that would house an art collection and a art school.

"That is still our goal, still our focus," Walsh said. "We'll see where that takes us."
