Strings' Steiner has last day

Today is Sheri Steiner's last day as the director of development and marketing, fund-raising and advertising for Strings in the Mountains. She has been in the position for almost six years.

It will take three people to replace Steiner.

Fund-raiser

a success

The second annual Bust of Steamboat fund-raiser earned more than $20,000 to pay for mammograms, biopsies and other costs associated with breast cancer in Routt and Moffat counties. Last year, Bust of Steamboat raised $15,000. The highest bid of the night was $1,265 for a body cast designed by Rachel Small.

New gallery wants local art

The Sleeping Giant Gallery, at 624 Lincoln Ave., is looking for work by local artists. All styles and media will be considered for exhibition, and shows will be scheduled monthly. Submit slides by calling Jill Bergman at 736-0621. Deadline for entries is Nov. 24.

Ride Snowboards and ArtLink are looking for artists to enter the second annual "Snowboard Art 2: A Graphics Competition" scheduled for exhibition in February.

The grand-prize design will be printed on five limited edition Ride snowboards. The grand prize winner will receive a $1,000 cash prize and one of the limited-edition Ride snowboards decorated with the design. The remaining four boards will be used for fund-raising purposes for the Surfrider Foundation's Snowrider Project, a national outreach program that seeks to educate snow-sport enthusiasts and Alpine communities on the interrelationship between the mountain and coastal environments and promote watershed stewardship.

The competition is open to all artists working in any two-dimensional medium designed to fit the official snowboard template. The Intent to Enter deadline is Dec. 17. Details are available at

The design competition will be held and exhibited in Steamboat Springs. An awards presentation will be held in February.

New exhibits at Tread of Pioneers

The exhibits "A Century of Valley Vows: A Community Exhibit" and "Foundations of Steamboat: The Gossard Family" are now on display at the Tread of Pioneers Museum. The exhibit traces the traditions, people and attire from weddings in Routt County from the past century.

Print workshop, gallery open
