Steamboat Pilates offers five-week FitBalls series
Steamboat Pilates is offering a new five-week series called "On the Ball" Pilates utilizing FitBalls. The class will begin at beginner level and progress. Working on the ball increases balance and core strength. Classes will be at 6:45 a.m. Fridays beginning Oct. 17 at the studio in the Old West building at 11th Street and Lincoln Avenue. Cost is $55. Columbine Youth Chorale seeks talented singers
Columbine Youth Chorale is seeking talented young singers. The children's choir is open to all interested youths ages 8 to 14; no experience is necessary. The group meets from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays at the Methodist Church. The choir will present a Christmas program Dec. 13 in collaboration with the Steamboat Springs Youth Orchestra. Call 879-1996.

Hayden department starts 'Music for the Fun of It'
The Hayden school music department has started "Music for the Fun of It," a program designed to make music approachable to all people, regardless of musical experience. A six-week guitar class for beginning and intermediate students will be offered from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays in the Hayden High School band room. The cost is $30 for the course. Lesson books will be available for purchase at the first lesson. The class is open to those ages 10 and older; enrollment will be limited to 15 students. Call 276-3761 to register.
Dance Theatre holding winter concert auditions
Steamboat Dance Theatre will hold auditions for its 32nd annual winter concert Sunday at the Northwest Ballet studio, 326 Oak St. Sign-in will be at 3 p.m.; warm-up is at 3:30 p.m.; and auditions are at 4 p.m. The audition fee is $10, which includes an annual Steamboat Dance Theatre membership. discussion for girls, moms
Bud Werner Memorial Library will continue its popular book discussion series for girls and women called "It's a Girl Thing" this fall. The free program is open to girls ages 10 to 13 and a woman of significance in their lives, such as their mother, grandmother, friend or teacher. Each pair will be given a copy of the discussion book to keep. Pairs may sign up for the remaining discussions. The program will take place from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Nov. 7 and Dec. 5 at the library. The Steamboat Kiwanis Club will hold its annual Senior Extravaganza at 6 p.m. Oct. 24 at Olympian Hall. This year's theme is "The Wild, Wild West" and participants are encouraged to dress up in their best Western costumes. All seniors are invited to the free event, which is held to honor and thank them. A gourmet, three-course Western meal will be followed by entertainment, games and prizes. Registration is required. Solo auditions for 'Messiah' held Oct. 21
Solo auditions for the Dec. 14 performance of "Messiah" will be Oct. 21 at St. Paul's Episcopal Chapel at the corner of Ninth and Oak streets.
The auditions are from 5 to 7 p.m. Those who wish to audition or have questions should contact Dr. Robert Ritschel at 870-4414 to arrange a time. An accompanist will be provided, though soloists may bring their own if they prefer.
