Madness raises $30,000

Perry-Mansfield's eighth annual Madness de Vine raised $30,000 to provide scholarships for next summer's students to study dance, theater and musical theater at Perry-Mansfield Performing Arts School and Camp.

The event was held Sept. 20 during the Steamboat Fall Foliage Festival. Guests rode up the gondola and spent the evening tasting more than 40 wines paired with regional foods. Entertainment was provided by harpist Andrea Erickson.

Fish wins solo beer medal

Chris Fish, former Steamboat Brewery and Tavern brewer, won his first solo Great American Beer Festival medal Saturday. Fish is the brewmaster at Smuggler's Brewpub and Grille in Telluride. He received a bronze for his Rocky Mountain Rye.

Friday Films continue

The free Friday Film series continues tonight with "Taste of Cherry" (1997, Iran, directed by Abbas Kiarostami). This deceptively simple film follows a spirited middle-age man who plans to commit suicide. Driving to various locations, he tries to find someone who will bury him after he is dead. A Kurd soldier, an Afghan seminarian and others are among those asked to consider his unusual offer.

"Taste of Cherry" will be shown at 7 p.m. at Centennial Hall, 124 10th St.

Artisans to sell their works

A pottery and sculpture sale featuring the works of 30 Steamboat Clay Artisans will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 18 and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 19 at the Depot Art Center, 1001 13th St.

Among those participating in the sale are Julie Anderson, Deb Babcock, Sue Binsfeld, Frank Bradley, Jody Elston, Eva Hansen, Rosie MacDonald, Anita Pajon, Eve Partridge, Barb Paulekas, Patti Retz and Mo Valenta.

A portion of each sale will be donated to help offset expenses for group activities such as the Soup Bowl Supper. Call 846-9349.
