Railroad crossing to be closed for tie replacement

The railroad crossing at Fifth Street in Steamboat Springs will be closed from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 8 so the railroad ties can be replaced.

Heeling Friends holding fall recruitment drive

Health and Rec offering free swimming tips

The Steamboat Springs Health and Recreation Center is offering patrons one free session of swimming tips from the swim team coaching staff. The sessions will take place from 4 to 5:15 p.m. Mondays and Fridays in October. Swimmers must be able to swim laps continuously. Each additional session is $5 per swimmer. Call 879-1828, Ext. 22.

Pilot & Today, KRMR

hosting election forums

The Steamboat Pilot & Today and KRMR radio will host a pair of election forums Oct. 15. A midday forum will be from noon to 2 p.m. at Centennial Hall, and an evening forum will be from 7 to 9 p.m. at Olympian Hall. Because of the number of Steamboat Springs City Council and School Board candidates attending and several ballot issues that will be discussed, questions will not be accepted from the audience during the forums. Instead, residents are encouraged to submit questions in advance to sstanford@steamboatpilot.com or krmrtalk@yahoo.com by Oct. 8. The questions posed to candidates during the forums will be chosen from those received by the newspaper and KRMR radio.

The Steamboat Springs Parks and Recreation Department and Mountain West Design Group are hosting a second open house to get public input on future use of the Bear River Parcel, the former sewage lagoons, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 8 at Olympian Hall.

The Central City Opera Company's Opera in the Rockies tour will present an afternoon of scenes from "Tales of Hoffman;" "The Student Prince"; "The Juggler of Notre Dame"; "The Elixir of Love"; and "Vanessa" at 4 p.m. Oct. 19 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Irish step dance class

talented young singers

Columbine Youth Chorale is seeking talented young singers. The children's choir is open to all interested youths ages 8 to 14; no experience is necessary.
