James L. Selcke: School benefits from Drake's leadership

I am writing this letter in support of Mr. Mark Drake, head football coach at Steamboat Springs High School. I have known Mark for the past 38 years. We were college teammates at Western State College in Gunnison, and in later years, friends and opposing coaches. My professional experience includes teaching, coaching, being athletics director and administrator, and officiating in School District No. 51 for 32 years.

Through the years, my experiences have taught me that competition in sports and school activities can greatly influence the learning process of students. It is critical that we have professionals who can meet the needs of individual students. You have such a person in Drake. I watched Mark excel as a football coach, bringing a first-class competitive program to the town of Steamboat Springs. That is acknowledged by his record, but more importantly, by the success of his players on and off the field. He has a passion for his players and a great loyalty to his school.

Mark is a dedicated family man exemplified by the success of his children, Mark Jr. and Kendra. His wife, Karen, has strongly supported Mark through the years. Keeping an individual of his caliber on your staff will ensure that other students and players have the opportunity to benefit from Mark's leadership.
