n The state of the ski industry will be discussed when the Steamboat Springs Kiwanis Club meets at noon Monday in the Alpenglow Room at Colorado Mountain College. Call 879-5058.

n The Oak Creek Library hosts preschool story-hour at 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Mondays. Call 736-8371.

n Colorado Mountain College offers free classes for adult learners and GED preparation to help students improve in reading, writing and math. Classes meet from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in Willett Hall, Room 300. Call 870 4542.

n The city of Steamboat Springs hosts adult open-gym volleyball from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Mondays through mid-April at the middle school gymnasium. Cost is $3.

n Colorado Mountain College is hosting drop-in, open-gym basketball from 8 to 9 p.m. in the Bristol Gym. Admission is free with student ID or $1 without. Call 870-4479.


n Story-times for toddlers 18 months to 3 years old is at 10 and 11 a.m. at Bud Werner Memorial Library.

n Newborn Network will host a newborn and mom get-together from 11a.m. to noon at Discovery Learning Center. A group for children ages 1 to 3 (and their parents) will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Call 870-0977.

n "Handling the holidays," a free program about getting through the holiday season when you are grieving the death of a loved one, is from 5:15 to 6:45 p.m. at the Visiting Nurse Association office, 940 Central Park Drive. Call 879-1632, ext. 33.

n The Steamboat Springs Table Tennis Club meets from 7 to 9 p.m. in the upstairs gym at the Steamboat School District Office building at the corner of Seventh and Pine streets. Cost is $5, and all levels are welcome. Call 879-2272.

n Routt County United Way and Vectra Bank sponsor a free community Thanksgiving dinner from 2 to 5 p.m. Thursday at the Steamboat Springs Community Center.

n A community Thanksgiving dinner will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Thursday at the Oak Creek Community Center. Volunteers are needed to cook, bring a dish, set up and serve. Call 735-8138 or 871-0921.

n The third annual Lighting of the Spencer Christmas Tree is at 7 p.m. Saturday at the corner of Fourth Street and Jefferson Avenue in Hayden. It will include the lighting of the tree, carols, refreshments and a visit with Santa. The event is sponsored by the town of Hayden.

n A Water Focus Group Meeting is at 8 a.m. Dec. 1 in Centennial Hall, rooms 113 and 114.

n The 26th Annual Community Holiday Party is from 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 4 at Howelsen Hill. The party includes tubing on Howelsen Hill, a Nativity scene, caroling, juggling elves and a visit from Santa Claus. Refreshments will be served. A limited number of tubes will be available for use.

n The eighth annual Ski Town USA Hockey Tournament is Dec. 4 to 7 at Howelsen Ice Arena. Call 871-0063 for a game schedule.

n The annual Christmas in the Rockies holiday artisans market is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 6 at Strawberry Park Elementary School. The craft fair features original arts and crafts, cheesecakes and pictures with Santa. Call the Steamboat Springs Arts Council at 879-9008.

n The annual Holiday Tree Festival is Dec. 7 at the Routt County Fairgrounds exhibition hall. The event includes an auction from 1:30 to 3 p.m. The festival is sponsored by the Hayden Heritage Center. Call Lydia Vaitkus at 276-7274.

n The city of Steamboat Springs Parks, Open Space and Recreation will host meetings for Adult Basketball and Coed Indoor Soccer Leagues on Dec. 9. The basketball meeting is at 5:30 p.m., and the soccer meeting is at 6:30 p.m. Call 879-4300.

n Colorado Mountain College's Alpine Enrichment Program offers a book discussion on "The Sons of Sheriff Henry" with author Charles Feldmann at 7 p.m. Dec. 10 in Bogue Hall, Room 300. Call 870-4432.

n Hayden's Rocking "A" Artisans Craft Bazaar is Dec. 13 at 148 S. Walnut St. This is a fund-raiser for the Rocking "A" Scholarship program.
