Monday's death of a 34-year-old man has been linked to a drug overdose, said J.D. Hays, the city's director of public safety services.
The Steamboat Springs man, who was a builder working on a house in Clark, was found dead about 6:58 a.m. in an apartment in the 700 block of Walton Pond Circle.
The man's body was sent to the Jefferson County Coroner's office, where Hays said the coroner ruled he showed classic signs of a drug overdose.
More official toxicology reports are expected to come back today.
Steamboat Springs police Detective Robert DelValle said a suspected drug substance and drug paraphernalia were found at the scene of the death. The police department is waiting for results to come back from those tests.
DelValle said the man was staying temporarily at the home where he died and was believed to have been dead for about six to eight hours before being found.
The man who rented the apartment at Walton Pond Circle found him that morning, DelValle said.
That man, with the help of a next-door neighbor, tried to do CPR and was assisted by a dispatcher from Routt County Communications, DelValle said.
