Craft bazaar to benefit scholarships

The Rocking "A" Craft Bazaar again will feature bowling with turkeys.

Turkey bowling involves sliding frozen turkey on sheet metal to knock down bowling pins.

Turkey bowling is just one of the features at the annual bazaar.

The Rocking "A" Craft Bazaar is from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dec. 13 at 148 S. Walnut Street in downtown Hayden. The event will benefit the Rocking "A" Scholarship fund.

Fine art, jewelry, beaded items, ornaments, candles, quilts, cards, fleece garments and crocheted items are for sale. Santa will be there, as will several featured artists including Hayden glassblower Brad Smith, said Rocking "A" founder Lana McFadden, owner of Porcupine Designs. A prize drawing will be held.

McFadden hopes to have live music from members of the Hayden High School band.

All proceeds from the crafters' space rentals and drawing go to fund the scholarship and cultural awareness programs, McFadden said. Booth spaces are $25 each.

The Rocking "A" is a scholarship for Hayden graduates who will be studying the visual or performing arts in college. The scholarship was founded by McFadden and Robyn Cina, owner of the Full Belly Deli.

Last year, one $1,000 scholarship was given to a Hayden graduate, but McFadden said she wants to give more.

"I would love to give more scholarships, but in order to do that, we need to do some fund raising," McFadden said.

Another goal is to raise awareness about cultural art, McFadden said.

Featured items from the drawing will soon be available to be viewed at the high school and elementary school concerts and at the bazaar itself.

Exhibitors should call McFadden at 276-4866. Donations for the prize drawing also are being sought.
