In celebration of National Philanthropy Week, the Yampa Valley Community Foundation sponsored a cocktail social at Catamount Golf Clubhouse on Friday to acknowledge the generosity and philanthropic spirit of women in our community.
The event was a culmination of a yearlong social marketing campaign in partnership with "Women and Girls, Changing the Faces of the New Frontier," a status project of the Women's Foundation of Colorado to ensure that gender equality issues continue to be addressed for women of all ages.
The Women In Philanthropy Celebration recognized efforts made possible by a $5,000 grant to the YVCF from the Women's Foundation of Colorado. The campaign raised awareness of the issues affecting women and girls in our community with an eight-part newspaper series addressing several topics including wage gaps between men and women in the work force, domestic abuse and sexual assault within our community, and the under-representation of women in politics. More than 40 women attended the celebration and were recognized for giving their time and effort to ensure the future generation is well equipped for success.
"The Foundation is joining celebrations throughout the country recognizing the generosity of people like you and the work of more than 400 community foundations throughout the nation" said Dianna Sutton, president/ CEO of the Yampa Valley Community Foundation.
"Philanthropy is a big word that really means to have a big heart and the love of mankind -- in this case tonight, the love of womankind."
A short presentation outlined the accomplishments of the Women and Girls projects and workshops over the past year, showing that the philanthropic efforts of those involved have made an impact in the community.
The Yampa Valley Community Foundation, respecting the wishes of donors, develops annual and growing funds to support organizations and innovative programs that preserve traditions and maintain the character of the community we serve. Through the continued generosity of the Steamboat Ski and Resort Corporation, YVCF is able to make competitive grants in the community on a quarterly basis.
