The Chix with Stix dropped their first two home matches of the year to the University of Colorado's club team, 6-0 and 8-2, at Howelsen Ice Arena during the weekend.
The Chix were unable to net a score Saturday, while CU got on the scoreboard in the first period and tacked on five more goals during the next two periods.
The average age of CU's players is 18, while the average age of the Chix with Stix players is "in the high 30s," team member Cathy Wiedemer said.
Tack on the advantage of having three additional skaters for the weekend games, and the Chix were starting with disadvantages before the puck was even dropped.
One bright spot for the Chix on their home opening night was the play of goalie Carol Vittore.
While CU scored six goals, Vittore made 19 saves as CU amassed 25 shots on goal.
On Saturday, the Chix found their offensive game, scoring two goals, but CU put eight points on the scoreboard for the win.
Scoring the goals for the Chix were Sue Heineke, on assists from Gretchen Van De Carr and Kit Rice, and Val Dietrich on an assist from Heidi Chapman.
K.C. Amon made 14 saves, and Vittore came in during the third and made six saves.
For the weekend, Stefanie Metcalf and Kellie Bertram were the big goal-scorers for CU. Metcalf had four goals and five assists, while Bertram had four goals and two assists.
During the Chix's Sunday morning game, the lights went out at Howelsen Ice Arena, prompting a 10-minute delay.
The Chix will be at home again Saturday and Sunday. The Chix host the Denver Bandits at 9 p.m. Saturday and 9:30 a.m. Sunday.
