Karen Richmond has been working in beauty salons for the past 11 years, but now she said, "I'm ready to play in my own sandbox."
After graduating from cosmetology school last year, she decided to bring her visions to life by starting her own business. Her Hot Shots Image Salon opened Tuesday at 125 S. Walnut St., in a commercial space behind the Food Mill that she renovated with the help of friends.
Hot Shots transcends the typical salon services. Besides hair styling, manicures and pedicures, Hot Shots offers image consultations. In an image consultation, Richmond gives customers a skin analysis, color analysis and makeup lesson. An image consultation costs $80 and can last up to two hours. Richmond said it is well worth it.
"Your image is the way you personify yourself, in other words, how you and other people see you," she said.
Richmond said her goal is to help her customers find their best look and be consistently honest with her customers.
"I won't just say, 'Oh, that looks great on you,'" Richmond said. "I want everybody to find their unique look."
Hot Shots also offers facials, massages, ear piercing, temporary hair removal and a full line of Aquage personal products, including shampoos, conditioners, skin care products and styling aids.
"I don't want people in Hayden to think they have to drive to Steamboat to get their hair or nails done," Richmond said. "I want them to be able to stay in Hayden to have all these things done."
Richmond has not set formal business hours. She said she wanted to wait to see when most of her customers came in and that she will remain flexible to her customers' needs.
