City Council candidate Marcus Williams could have to pay a $50 fine for missing the state's filing deadline for campaign contributions and expenditures.

Williams, who is in a three-way race for the District II seat, missed the state mandated Friday deadline but turned in the papers Monday.

Williams said he was in Denver on a business trip Thursday and an ice storm on the Front Range delayed his return Friday.

City Clerk Julie Jordan said she wrote Williams a letter Monday informing him of the $50 fine for missing the deadline. She said Williams could request to not pay the fine if he has a justifiable reason for missing the deadline.

Williams' report did show he has spent $925 since Oct. 16. Williams has spent $2,008 on the race and has raised 2,108. The money for the race has all come out of Williams' pockets.

He has spent less than his opponents but more than Bud Romberg and Susan Dellinger, who are vying for the District I seat. District II candidate Kathi Meyer has spent $6,390, and Ken Brenner has spent $3,319.
