Eva Brazelton, 1919-2003


Hayden resident Eva Brazelton passed away May 2, 2003, at The Memorial Hospital in Craig. She was 84.

Eva was born Jan. 21, 1919, in Ralston, Okla., to Jesse and Irene Barnacascel. She was raised in Oklahoma, where she later met and married James W. Brazelton on March 5, 1938.

The couple moved to Hayden, where they remained with the exception of short periods living in Richland, Wash., Jerome, Idaho, and Orland, Calif.

Eva worked many years as a cook for the Hayden School District and a janitor at Yampa Valley National Bank. She also worked as a telephone operator.

She loved her flowers and her garden and enjoyed cooking and watching hummingbirds. She was a member of the Church of Christ.

Eva was preceded in death by her parents; a stepfather, Sherm Gravelle; two sisters, Mary and Katie; three brothers, C.E. "Bud", Jesse Jr. and Richard; her husband and a great-grandson.

She is survived by four sons, James Brazelton of Hayden, Jerry Brazelton and Michael Brazelton of Dallas, and Dick McClellan of La Porte, Texas; four sisters, Pauline Betschert of Toppenish, Wash., Anna Stump of Ephrata, Wash., Betty Little of North Highland, Ore., and Pattie McDaniels of Richland, Wash.; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and one great-great- grandchild.

Services were held May 12, 2003, at Hayden Congregational Church.
