Hayden gets online

— Whether they have a personal computer or not, Hayden residents can now access the Internet and a bevy of Yampa Valley community information and resources, from a kiosk in the West Routt Public Library.

The kiosk, developed by the Yampa Valley Community Information Center (www.yampavalley.info), give people a place to go for answers to questions about government, community happenings and where-to-go contact information for community leaders and resources.

The Hayden Public Library was selected as one of five locations in Routt County for a kiosk. Citizens Hall in Steamboat Springs, the Steamboat Springs Chamber and Resort Association Visitor Center, the Bud Werner Memorial Library and the Routt County Courthouse were the other recipients of kiosks.

"The Hayden community is fortunate to have been selected as one of the sites for a kiosk," Hayden librarian Jacquie Boyd said in a press release. "This availability will give our residents access to valley-wide services and information, as well as links to related Web sites."

The kiosks were provided in part by the city of Steamboat Springs and the Orton Family Foundation.

The Web site offers mapping from a geographic information system, similar to global positioning systems. Also, there are links to community events, a search function, public facility times and locations, and even a community forum in which Routt County residents can post their thoughts on an array of issues.

"I feel there are areas such as health issues and accessing government records from the county that are of vital need," Boyd said. "It's amazing what a broad base the site covers. It's very user-friendly, and it's also nice that you won't have to go to Steamboat to access records.
