Steamboat Springs Heidi Chapman's third-period goal proved to be the difference as the Chix with Stix women's hockey team secured a win in its final game of the Colorado Women's Hockey Association's state tournament.
Sunday's 3-2 victory over the Fort Collins Flames helped erase some of the sting of losing the first two games of the tournament Saturday.
The Chix finished in fifth place in the final standings. The Vail Breakaways won the tournament with a 6-3 win over Aspen.
The Denver Bandits finished in third place, the Breckenridge Blizzard placed fourth and the Fort Collins Flames finished sixth in the tournament after falling to Steamboat in Sunday's early game.
In that game the Chix scored first when Kathy Fader made a shot off a pass from Sue Heineke in the first period.
The Flames tied the game in the next period and then briefly took the lead with about three minutes left in the second.
But the lead wouldn't stand.
Steamboat tied the game when Diane Dwire, who was also credited with the assist on the game-winner, put the puck in the back of the net. Heineke and Renee Dupre were credited with the assist.
The game remained knotted at two, until Heineke netted the game winner with just over 9 minutes remaining.
Teams from Vail, Aspen, Breckenridge, Denver, Fort Collins and Steamboat took part in last weekend's tournament.
The Colorado Women's State Hockey Association will return to Steamboat April 11-13 when the "B" division holds its end-of-season tournament.
