County employees spend day at Steamboat Lake

— County officials and employees are hoping to find their vision for the coming year.

Today they meet at Steamboat Lake State Park to consider future goals and plans for Routt County.

Woodstone Consulting Co. is hosting the retreat.

The one-day getaway is intended to give the county's elected representatives, department heads and other key players a chance to look back at last year's accomplishments and look ahead to next year's needs.

The Board of County Commissioners will spearhead a review of the county's mission and strategic goals.

Department heads will talk about their department's successes and wish lists.

County Manager Tom Sullivan said one of the retreat's highlights is the presentation of Woodstone Consulting Co.'s high-performance model.

It's a program that will get participants into the right frame of mind to go about their business and plan for the future, he said.

An opportunity to discuss what direction the county should take in the coming year is especially relevant at this time, Sullivan said.

A break-out session is scheduled to consider if the county's proposals for next year and its departments' needs line-up with its mission and goals.

More needs and fewer means to pay for them require that everyone be on the same page, and today's retreat affords that opportunity, he said.

The retreat runs from 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
