— The Chix with Stix came up empty in two games on the Front Range over the weekend.

The Chix lost to the Denver Bandits, 5-3, on March 7 and dropped another game to the Fort Collins Flames on March 8, 5-1

In the first game against the Bandits, the Chix spotted the Bandits a three-goal lead through the first period and into the second before Gretchen VanDeCarr scored the first goal for the Chix when the puck bounced off a Denver defender and into the net.

Cathy Wiedemer added Steamboat's second goal with 2 minutes left in the second off assists from Karen Post and Lynn Bosley.

Bosley notched the initial unsuccessful shot, but Wiedemer was able to put the rebound past the Bandits goalie.

Denver added another goal to make the score 4-2 after two periods.

Early in the third, Denver scored a short-handed goal, but with a minute left and the face-off in the Chix's offensive zone, coach Tim Shoreland yanked Steamboat's goalie to increase its chances of scoring with an extra offensive player.

Steamboat won the face-off, but Diane Dwire's first shot attempt was stopped.

On the second face-off, despite efforts to prevent Dwire from touching the puck, the Chix player wound up with it and was able to score, bringing the final to 5-3.

Steamboat goalie Carol Vittore stopped 17 of 22 shots she faced from Denver.

On March 8, the Chix were unable to muster up much offense against the Fort Collins team, losing 5-1.

Steamboat did score first on Rene Dupre's goal with assists credited to Dwire and Post.

The Flames, however, added the next five goals to win by four.

Vittore played two periods and stopped 14 of 18 shots. K.C. Amon entered in the third and stopped 9 of 10 shots.

The next game for the Chix is on March 22 against the Breckenridge Blizzard in Breckenridge.

Steamboat's next home action will be the A division tournament on March 28-30 at Howelsen Ice Arena.
