Free concert series

begins Wednesday

The Steamboat Springs Free Concert Series starts Wednesday with a performance by blues and rock singer-songwriter John Hiatt. Hiatt performs at 5:30 p.m. at Headwall to open the series, which will be held throughout the summer. Admission is free.

Fourth of July celebration will include parade, games

The Yampa Fourth of July Celebration begins at 1 p.m. July 4 with a parade followed by a barbecue and games at the school. The evening ends with a fireworks show at night.

Also, the Yampa Quilt Show will be held from 10 a.m. to noon July 4, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 5 and 1 to 4 p.m. July 6 at the American Legion building in Yampa.

Annual Strings garden tour planned for July 5

Strings in the Mountains eighth annual Steamboat Springs High Country Garden Tour will be held July 5. This event features a garden market and educational lecture at the Strings Tent and then a tour of seven of Steamboat's premier gardens and outdoor living spaces.

Tickets are $15 in advance at the Strings box office, Off the Beaten Path and All That Jazz and support Strings in the Mountains. Tickets will be $20 on the day of the tour, available at the Strings Tent. Call 879-5056, Ext. 104.

Literary Sojourn quilt

on display at library

"Yampa Valley Summer," a quilt handcrafted by Steamboat Springs quilt artist David Taylor for Literary Sojourn 2003, is on display now at Bud Werner Memorial Library. A benefit drawing for the quilt will take place Sept. 13, the day of Literary Sojourn. Drawing tickets are $15 each and are available at Off the Beaten Path and the library.

Parks and Recreation

has openings for T-ball

The Steamboat Springs Parks and Recreation Department has space available in its youth T-ball program. The program is for children entering kindergarten or first grade in fall 2003 and will run from early July through August. Cost is $45. Stop by the parks and recreation office to complete a registration form or call 879-4300.

Drop-in wrestling

available at SSHS

Drop-in, open-gym wrestling for all ages and all ability levels is being offered from 5:15 to 6:30 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays at the Steamboat Springs High School Wrestling Room. There is no cost and wrestlers should bring appropriate clothing. Call Brian Smith at 291-9166.

Moffat County plans 'biggest fair parade ever'

The Moffat County Fair Board, Moffat County Extension Office and the Craig Downtown Business Association are planning the "biggest Moffat County Fair Parade ever" to take place on Aug. 2. The theme will be "85 years of joy and tears." Organizations and businesses are needed to enter floats and to sponsor awards for float categories. Call Karen at 824-7898.

meet at noon July 2

Routt County Republicans will meet at noon July 2 in the commissioners meeting room of the Routt County Courthouse. Also, Routt County Republicans will meet at 8:30 a.m. July 4 on Yampa Street to prepare for Fourth of July Parade.Call 870-2891.

LIFT-UP now accepting summer donations

The LIFT-UP Donation Center is now accepting spring and summer clothing items. Donations are accepted from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays or by appointment. Call 879-3374.
