— Elected officials will get a look at how Colorado tax laws are impacting the state budget and, in turn, local governments' pocketbooks.

At tonight's City Council meeting, The Bell Policy Center will present its study on the impact the Taxpayers' Bill of Rights (TABOR) has had on the state in the last 10 years. The County Commissioners and members from county school districts will also be there.

City Manager Paul Hughes said the city would be interested in discussion revolving around the Gallagher Amendment.

The Gallagher Amendment is a state tax law that heavily taxes commercial properties. Hughes said the Gallagher Amendment has made enacting a property tax in Steamboat hard because the majority of the city's growth has been residential, not commercial.
