— Genna Bradley took the Optional A all-around title, while teammate Maggie Faulkner won the Level 5 all-around crown at the May 31 meet hosted by the Steamboat Gymnastics Center.

The Steamboat Stars, the Level 5 team representing Steamboat's gym, took first place overall.

Bradley won each individual event Saturday for a convincing victory in the 15 gymnast Optional A field, scoring no lower than a 9.1 on any of her four events.

She posted a 9.6 on the floor, performing a single layout on one of her passes, which sparked the crowd to applause. She added a 9.4 on the vault, a 9.2 on the balance beam and a 9.1 on her uneven bars routine for an all-around score of 37.30

Faulkner also recorded four scores above 9.0.

Competing for the Stars at Level 5, Faulkner won the vault, bars and floor, and took third in the beam, scoring 36.50 to win the all-around title.

Faulkner scored a 9.0 on vault, a 9.25 on bars, a 9.05 on beam and a 9.2 on the floor.

Katie Birch finished third overall, while Jaime Winter placed fourth in the all-around competition.

Teammate Jena Pruett was the beam champion with a 9.2.

The 11 members of the Steamboat Stars are Faulkner, Pruett, Birch, Winter, Lauren Ladley, Taylor Loomis, Brittany Nichols, Allie Lowrie, Camille Sachs, Griffin Woolley and Morgan Spodek.

While the top five members of the Stars had previous meet experience before Saturday, the May 31 meet was the not only the home debut but the competitive debut for Loomis, Nichols, Lowrie, Sachs, Woolley and Spodek.

Bradley was the only Steamboat individual to compete in the Optional A meet.

An Optional B meet, which is one level higher than Optional A, was also held in Steamboat. Lanie Burntz of Upward Athletics won the overall title in that competition. Upward Athletics is located in Gypsum.

The Steamboat Gymnastics Center is closed but will reopen June 9 for the summer session.

Coach Deirdre Bernard said parents are still welcome to register their children by calling 879-1624.
