— Hunting may be the most popular winter sport in Northwest Colorado, but it isn't the only way to get up close and personal with animals.

Wildlife watching and photography can also earn a patient person a prize-winning shot. As thousands of tourists have already discovered, Northwest Colorado stands out as one of the premier locations in the world for viewing animals in their natural habitat.

With more than 3 million total acres, 1.7 million acres of which are public lands, Moffat County is home to large herds of elk, deer and pronghorn antelope, as well as many small mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and fish.

Within the county's borders are the Brown's Park National Wildlife Refuge, a portion of Dinosaur National Monument and a portion of the Routt National Forest as well as sage-grouse and sandhill crane habitats.

Stop by the Craig Chamber of Commerce to pick up a brochure on some of the best viewing points in the county.
