The Steamboat Springs School District is accepting applications to fill vacancies on four volunteer committees, the Education Fund Board, the Education Excellence Commission, the Technology Commission and the Capital Commission.
The School Board appoints members to the board and commissions for two-year terms. Many of the members' terms are set to expire this year, said Anne Muhme, assistant to the superintendent.
Three members of the Education Fund Board will see their terms expire, while another member resigned. The fund board is responsible for making decisions regarding the uses of the money generated through the half-cent sales tax in the district.
The Technology Commission will have three positions available, because of members' expiring terms.
The Educational Excellence Commission will have six available seats, and the Capital Commission will have three.
Some of the members may reapply for their positions, Muhme said.
Each of the committees includes faculty members from the district's four public schools.
The three commissions look at the potential uses of the half-cent sales tax and make recommendations on uses for the money within their respective areas, educational excellence, technology or capital needs. Proposals and requests for funding are submitted to the appropriate commissions.
If a proposal is approved, it is submitted to the Education Fund Board. On the fund board, representatives from each commission join four members from the School Board to accept or deny proposals
The School Board has the final say in the approval or denial of the proposal.
Each commission meets once a month. The Education Fund Board meets on the first Wednesday of every month.
The deadline for applications is Aug. 8. The Steamboat Springs School Board will be choosing the new members.
The School Board hopes to appoint new members to each of the committees at its Aug. 18 meeting, Muhme said.
Applicants are asked to submit a letter of interest to the School Board. The letter should include information about the applicant's background, but a resume is not required.
