Philharmonic musicians visit

— This week, Strings in the Mountains features three principal instrumentalists from the New York Philharmonic, violinist Michelle Kim, violist Cynthia Phelps and clarinetist Marc Nuccio. The New York Philharmonic is the oldest orchestra in the United States. Founded in 1842, it has presented almost every great musician of the last two centuries. Kim, Phelps and Nuccio will perform at 7 p.m. Wednesday, highlighting an evening of "Mostly Mozart." The cost for the concert is $16 for adults and $5 for juniors.

Afterward, the musicians will be available to meet the public and have a casual chat during a free cookie and lemonade reception. At 8 p.m. Saturday, Kim, Phelps and Nuccio will collaborate with Strings' chamber musicians in a program entitled the "Three B's," featuring three great classical composers whose names begin with the letter "B": Bolcom, Beethoven and Brahms.

International piano soloist Phillip Bush will leads the night of musical performances with Bolcom's jazzy and entertaining "Piano Rags."

Also at Strings in the Mountains this week, on Tuesday, members of the New York Philharmonic will discuss "Life and times of the modern orchestra musician" in a free lecture hosted by Dr. Ken Greene at noon Tuesday in Centennial Hall, 124 10th St.

Later Tuesday, the Gizmo Guys will perform their award-winning juggling and jokes in a family concert at 5:30 p.m. The cost is $1 for kids and $8 for adults.

On Thursday, the Hyperion String Quartet will present a free, hour-long Music on the Green concert at 12:15 p.m. at the Yampa River Botanic Park. When the parking lot is full,

overflow parking is available at the Hampton Inn and Suites. Continuous shuttle service will be provided by Mountain Resorts from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Eileen Ivers, a nine-time All-Ireland Fiddle Champion and star of the original "Riverdance," and her band will perform their unique style of Celtic music in a Different Tempo concert at 8 p.m. Friday. Tickets are $26.

The week wraps up with the "Three B's" concert at 8 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $18 for adults / $5 for juniors.
