George Paul Coonts 1937-2003

George Paul Coonts passed away July 17, 2003, in Steamboat Springs. He was 65.

Paul was born Aug. 9, 1937, in Limon to Pearl and Georgia Coonts. He grew up in and around Agate and graduated from Agate High School in 1955.

Coonts joined the Navy after graduation and was stationed in Oahu, Hawaii.

He married his high school sweetheart, Maxine Lee Kellogg, on Oct. 27, 1957, in Hawaii. The couple had four children.

In 1962, the family moved to Limon, where Paul worked in construction until he purchased a Conoco station, which he owned until 1976. Paul then entered into a partnership in the Vermillion Building Center before he started his own construction business.

Paul and Maxine fulfilled a lifelong dream when they moved to Steamboat in 1987. He worked for Central Park Management.

Paul and Maxine enjoyed jeeping, fishing, camping and entertaining family and friends in the forest. Paul also enjoyed hunting with three generations of family and numerous friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine; his parents; and his sister, Ginny.

Paul is survived by his children, Dean, Jeanie, Jeff and Donna; their spouses, Lorie, Kari, Julie and Rick; two brothers, Jack and Jim; and 11 grandchildren.

A celebration of life memorial service was held July 19, 2003, in Steamboat Springs by Paul's many friends next to the pond he enjoyed so much.

Funeral services were held July 21, 2003, at the Methodist Church in Limon. Paul's final resting place is next to his wife in Pershing Cemetery in Limon.
