Teams named academic champs

The Colorado High School Activities Association has named two Steamboat Springs athletic teams "Academic Team Champions."
The girls soccer team and girls Nordic ski team were named the state's top academic teams in Colorado in their respective sports.
The soccer team's collective 3.83 GPA was the highest in Colorado and Class 4A. The same holds true for the Sailors Nordic ski team. Its team GPA was 3.87 for the 2002-03 academic school year.
Schools winning the state academic title in their activities receive a plaque commemorating their achievements. Individual members of the academic championship teams receive certificates.
Varsity members of the 2003 Steamboat girls soccer team were Anya Allen, Ann Barney, Jessica Dover, Lindsay Ellis, Abby Fritz, Haley Gallagher, Casey Garth, Nikki Garth, Allison Hall, Ashley Idzahl, Kelly Labor, Tracy Lucas, Kelli Parnell, Lisl Pearson, Kirsten Ryan and Melissa White.
Ellis attended Soroco High School. Hall attended Hayden High School, while Pearson attended Christian Heritage School.
Members of the 2002-03 Steamboat girls Nordic ski team were: Pearson, Jennifer Hooper, Sarah MacCarthy, Rachel Ryan and Korie Steitz.
