Irwin "Butch" Curtis died June 27, 2003, after a long struggle with cancer. He was 60.
Butch was born Oct. 16, 1942, in Springville, Utah, to Irwin and Ada Stark Curtis. He graduated from Springville High School in 1960.
The following year he married Dianne Snelson. The couple had five children together. Dianne died of cancer in 1973, and in 1974 Butch married Bonnie Carter, with whom he had two children.
Butch began his career as a carpet layer and later attended the police academy. He was a police officer with the Springville Police Department, in addition to several other law enforcement positions.
He also was a truck driver for 26 years. One trucking job brought Butch from Utah to Hayden, where he enjoyed hunting, fishing and the great outdoors with his family.
Butch was preceded in death by his mother; an infant brother and a son, Ricky Don Curtis.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; his children, Wendy Anderson of St. George, Utah, Troy Wade of Hayden, Shawn and Shad of Craig, Charity of Oak Creek and Ray of Hayden; 12 grandchildren; his father; three sisters, Faye Quarnberg, Donna Curtis of Mapleton, Utah, Eva Peterson of West Valley, Utah, and a brother, Doug Curtis of Yampa.
A viewing was held June 30, 2003, at Grant Mortuary. Funeral services were held July 1, 2003, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Craig.
