Ambulance with patient on board hits deer

An ambulance transporting a man injured in a motorcycle accident Wednesday evening was involved in an accident en route to Yampa Valley Medical Center.

The man had crashed his motorcycle on Colo. Highway 131 south of Toponas on Wednesday night. A Yampa ambulance responded to the accident, and on its way back to the hospital hit a deer.

Emergency Medical Technician Emma Williamson, who assisted the injured man in the ambulance, guessed that the ambulance hit the deer about two miles outside of Yampa.

She said that no one in the ambulance was seriously injured in the accident involving the deer.

"Only bumps and bruises," she said.

The ambulance received minor damage in the accident but was still able to drive safely, she said.
