Lalive off to championships

— Steamboat Springs' Caroline Lalive, a 1997 graduate of the Lowell Whiteman School, was among 17 skiers named to compete in the upcoming Alpine World Championships, which will be held in Switzerland.

The American team will include nine men and eight women and includes 15 2002 Olympians. The World Championships will begin Sunday in St. Moritz with the men's super-G and run through Feb. 16.

Other skiers who were named to the team included Bode Miller, Daron Rahlves (who won the fabled Hahnenkamm downhill Sunday in Kitzbuehel, Austria), Jake Fiala, Chip Knight, Tom Rothrock, Erik Schlopy, Dane Spencer, Marco Sullivan and Thomas Vonn on the men's side.

Lalive will be joined by teammates Kirsten Clark, Kristina Koznick, Libby Ludlow, Julia Mancuso, Jonna Mendes, Sarah Schelper and Resi Stiegler.
