— The Steamboat Springs Midget Major hockey team traveled to Crested Butte over the weekend, splitting a pair of games with the home team.

The Saturday game was played under snowy skies because Crested Butte's facility is an open ice rink.

The Steamboat team was unable to overcome the challenges of heavy snow and poor visibility, falling to Crested Butte 4-0.

Steamboat rebounded on Sunday, however, pulling out a 2-1 victory.

Chris Gayer and Hunter Livingston notched Steamboat's two goals. Crested Butte's lone goal came in the final two minutes of the game when the home team pulled its goalie and was able to find the back of the net with the extra attacker.

In other hockey news, the Steamboat Springs Midget Minor team traveled to Laramie over the weekend for three games in Wyoming.

Steamboat won the opening game 3-2 off goals by Ryan Brees, Nate Coram and Todd Mistr.

Sam Gary and Tucker Smalley recorded the assists. Goalie Randy Rule picked up the victory for Steamboat.

Laramie answered in the second game Saturday, shutting out Steamboat, 4-0.

In the rubber match Sunday, Steamboat and Rule delivered their own shutout, defeating Laramie 2-0.

Gary and Mistr found the back of the net for Steamboat, while teammate Charlie Pappas had one assist.

Defensemen Alec Idoni, Trustin Thompson and Joel Ackerman assisted Rule in recording the shutout.
